Alchemy - The science in Fullmetal Alchemist, is comprised of the law of equivalent exchange; which states that "to obtain, something of equal value must be lost." It involves using a transmutation circle to change the chemical makeup of an item or items. Alchemist - A scientist who is practiced in the art of Alchemy. See also; State Alchemist. Amestris - The country in which Fullmetal Alchemist takes place. It is made up of many cities, including Resembool and Dublith. The Military is a strong prescence here. Aquroya - A coastal city built on the water where Ed and Al meet a rogue thief known as Psiren in their quest for the Philosopher's Stone. It is only featured in the anime. Mechanics are able to create limbs out of metals which through a complicated system of wires are attached to the nerves enabling them to function as seamlessly as real limbs. The process of getting fitted with automail is incredibly painful. Due to the Ishbalan Massacre, there is a high demand for automail and automail mechanics. Bald - Leader of the terrorist group the Blue Squad, Bald attempts to hold up the train General Hakuro is on with his family. However, Ed and Al also happen to be on the train as well. Black Hayate - A well-behaved young pup who is especially obedient to his owner, Riza Hawkeye. Bradley, King - The fuhrer of Amestris, he is head of the military and always seems to be in a suspiciously good mood. There is more to him that meets the eye. Bradley, Selim - King's young son, a bright and cheerful boy. Central - The main headquarters of the Amestrian Military, Central is the capital of Amestris, home to the Presidential Estate, and location of the State Alchemist's Office, and the National Library. Chimera - A tragic creature created from using alchemy to fuse different animals together. Shou Tucker created the only known talking chimera, but he did it by combining first his wife with an animal, and later his daughter, Nina, with their pet, Alexander. Some of Greed's entourage consists of human chimeras; Martel, Loa, and Dorchet. Den - The family pet of the Rockbells, the canine is fitted with an automail leg. Dublith - The hometown of Ed and Al's teacher, Izumi Curtis, and her husband Sig. Located slightly south of Rush Valley. Related; Yock Island. East City - The center of the East Area, where Resembool and Liore are located. The military headquarters for the East Area are also located here. It is also the hometown of Shou and Nina Tucker. Elric, Alphonse - Edward's brother who lost his body in an accident when the two brothers tried to resurrect their dead mother. He is kind and gentle. For more information see his character page. Elric, Edward - The older of the two brothers, Edward lost his leg in their mother's resurrection attempt, and his arm to bring back his brother's soul. He has since joined the military to help further their quest to regain their original bodies. For more information see his character page. Elric, Trisha - Edward and Alphonse's kind and beautiful mother. She died tragically when both boys were very young.
