Philosopher's Stone - The object Edward believes can help restore his and Al's bodies back to normal. It is said to amplify alchemic powers and the Amestrian military has been secretly trying to create their own using human sacrifice with the help of Dr. Tim Marcoh. Other names it can be known as include; Sage's Stone, Stone of Heaven, Great Elixir, Red Tincture, and The Fifth Element. Related; Red Water.
Pocketwatch - State Alchemists are given a special pocketwatch with the State's seal on it to denote their status, as well as slightly magnifying their powers. Edward has etched the date he and Al burned their house down into the inside of his.
Red Stones - Partially formed artificial Philosopher's Stone that were as successful as Dr. Marcoh could get in his attempts to create the Stone on his own.
Red Water - The Tringham brothers followed in their father's research to create the Philosopher's Stone, but the best they could do was a red water that had begun poisoning most of their town. While the water did amplify alchemic powers greatly, it was highly unstable.
Resembool - Ed and Al's hometown, a small village near the south of Amestris, is filled with rural countryside.
Rush Valley - Located south of Central, Rush Valley is known as the automail mechanic's mecca. Filled with automail shops, and some of the latest technology, Ed and Al meet Paninya here, and Winry begins her serious automail training working at Garfiel's shop.
Sen - The currency used throughout Amestris.
State Alchemist - Alchemists that have passed a written and presentation exam as well as an interview are enlisted into the military as State Alchemists. They are granted federal funds for their own research, but in return are "dogs of the military." Their rank is equal to the rank of major, and Edward is the youngest person to have ever been granted the title.
Transmutation Circle - In order to use alchemy, and alchemist must first draw an appropriate array known as a transmutation circle. The components that make up the array are specific to the type of alchemy desired to perform. Edward and Izumi, and later Al, can all perform alchemy without the use of a transmutation circle because they have seen "the gate."
